Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Desna and Peri have adopted the name Tatapouri as the pedigree kennel name for their brood of 7 (at time of writing) Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. The name Tatapouri is a sentimental reminder of a family favourite beach camping spot 20 minutes drive north of Gisborne where the couple courted in the early years of their relationship.

Originating from England this breed of dog was classified as an independent breed from its forebears in the 1940’s, the King Charles and the Cocker Spaniel and were given the prefix Cavalier to differentiate them.

The Cavalier is an ideal house pet, gentle, playful and always willing to please. Outdoors, it loves to explore, sniff and chase. The Cavalier King Charles spaniel is an eager, affectionate tail-wagger. Lively, outgoing and sporty, these fearless lively little dogs want to please. They are intelligent enough to understand what you want and therefore are usually easy to train and respond well to gentle obedience training.[1]
